About Us

Total Home Care was started in 1984 by Don and Holly Chute in Atlanta. In 1990, while running his own commercial window cleaning company, Maury Benamy began his association with Total Home Care, and for the next 15 years, would often assist Don and Holly with some of their jobs. During that time both Maury and the Chutes formed a strong bond while working within the International Window Cleaning Association (IWCA) to better the industry. In 2004, Maury and John Stembel purchased Total Home Care from the Chutes. Total Home Care of Georgia, Inc. was formed by combining the customer databases of the two companies. In 2006, Maury became the sole owner of Total Home Care, while John remained on the operations side of the business. In 2008, Total Home Care purchased Bob Cox Window and Gutter Cleaning to further increase the customer base. In the fall of 2012, we were happy to announce acquiring the employees and customer base of Mr. Clean & Shine. In late 2016, Maury unexpectedly passed at his home, and John Stembel resumed ownership and management of Total Home Care.

In 1994, John Stembel met Maury Benamy on a Tennessee hillside while looking for caves. This mutual love of cave exploration helped form their strong bond. Maury taught John the basics of window cleaning starting in 1997. Thousands of jobs and homes later, he is now the owner of Total Home Care. With the love and support of his wife of nearly twenty years, and his two teenage daughters, John stays active with his dogs, hiking, caving, and canoeing. He is also a Skilled Supervisor for the Atlanta Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, a long-time volunteer with Trees Atlanta, and the librarian for two Little Free Libraries.
